Belarus-designed Dairy Farm Opens in Sakhalin

RUSSIA - A big commercial dairy farm of the Belarusian design was put into operation in Russia's Sakhalin on 27 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the governor and government of Sakhalin Oblast.

"The construction of the agricultural facility in the village of Razdolny, Korsakov District, was launched in 2016. Once fully operational, the company will produce some 7,000 tonnes of milk and 200 tonnes of meat annually," the press service said.

The best Belarusian practices were used in the construction of the dairy farm in Sakhalin. The project was divided into two stages.

The first stage envisaged eight silage pits with the capacity of 2,000 tonnes each. The second stage included the construction of the main production unit, manure processing facilities, engineering and transport infrastructure.

"The farm will have a 1,000 cattle herd that will be accomodated in three sheds for cows and three sheds for calves. We will use the Holstein breed to make up the livestock. The farm in Razdolny, once in full operation, will significantly increase the production of high-quality and affordable milk and meat on the island," Director General of Korsakovsky State Farm Sergei Shamanayev said.

The first cows were transported to Razdolny from Belarus in late 2018.
